I Summer Distance Training Tips
1. You need to have a watch!!....preferably one that keeps lap splits
2. You also need a good pair of Running Sneakers…..it is very beneficial to go to a running specialty shop because they will look at your foot and tell you what kind of shoe you will need (cushioning, support, motion control) They are all very different and if you end up in the wrong shoe it is not fun!
3. Keep a running journal (write down training related info……length of run, time it took you, how you felt, possible reasons why you felt that way…anything else you want to record.
4. Get your training done in the Morning!!! The longer the day goes on and the hotter it gets the less likely you will be to run!
5. Get someone to run with you. They don’t have to be on the team, it could be anyone….If you say you are going to meet someone…you will be more likely to get out the door if you have someone counting on you.
6. If you go on vacation, you can still train….there is a weight room in most hotels, try running in the pool for a workout ( try this….15x 30 sec with 15 sec recovery or 10xmin with 30 sec recovery) You have to make the commitment and that may mean getting up a little earlier but everything has a price.
7. For your long run….try running 30 mins first and then meeting someone to finish the run…if you don’t have someone to do the whole thing with you.
8. If you are having problems running by yourself…try running out and back…..meaning if you are to run 50 mins…run 25 out a road and then turn around and run 25 mins back…
9. Drink plenty of water.
10. Drink plenty of water.
11. Drink plenty of water.
12. Get enough calories….You need to make sure that you have the energy to do your training! Fruit smoothies are a great snack and post workout treat.
13. Stretch! Very important for preventing injuries and it helps you progress in your training.
14. Running on trails is a lot cooler in the middle of the day than the road.
15. If you are having any kind of problems, or have any questions, or just want to tell me that you ran 55 straight for the first time ever, I will be glad to listen and offer any help I can.
16. Set Goals for your summer training and meet them!
17. Have fun and have a sense of future about the possibilities of the team for next season!
